Likert Scale Generator
A Likert scale generator turns a topic and a few statements into a balanced 3, 5, 7, or 10 point rating scale with matching response labels. This one also flags leading, double-barreled, ambiguous, and reverse-coded wording so your product feedback survey measures what you intend.

Items and wording checks
1. The setup steps were easy to follow.
No wording issues found
2. I found it difficult to invite my teammates.R
Scored as 6 - response, so 1 becomes 5 and 5 becomes 1.
- Reverse-coded (note): Marked reverse-coded. Scores are flipped before analysis so higher always means more of the construct.
3. The checklist and the tutorial videos were helpful.
- Double-barreled: "and" may join two ideas in one item. Split it if someone could feel differently about each part.
4. Don't you agree the new dashboard is amazing?
- Leading: "don't you agree" signals the answer you expect. Rewrite it as a neutral statement.
- Leading: "amazing" is emotionally loaded and can push answers to one end. Use a milder, specific word.
- Scale mismatch: Agreement scales need a statement people can agree with, not a question. Rephrase it as a statement.
Wording checks are rule-of-thumb guidance from simple local rules, not validation research. Pilot the scale with real respondents before relying on it.

Worked example: onboarding ease
The example measures how easy onboarding feels on a 5-point agreement scale, from 1 (Strongly disagree) to 5 (Strongly agree).
- “The setup steps were easy to follow.” A clear, single-idea statement. No flags.
- “I found it difficult to invite my teammates.” Negatively worded, so it is marked reverse-coded. A response of 2 is scored as 6 - 2 = 4.
- “The checklist and the tutorial videos were helpful.” Double-barreled. Split it into one item about the checklist and one about the videos.
- “Don't you agree the new dashboard is amazing?” Leading, loaded, and a question on an agreement scale. Try “The new dashboard helps me find what I need.”
Choosing 3, 5, 7, or 10 points
- 3-point
- Fast to answer on mobile. Good for quick pulse checks, but it hides intensity.
- 5-point
- The common default. Easy to read and enough detail for most product feedback.
- 7-point
- More nuance for research and repeated tracking, with a clear neutral midpoint.
- 10-point
- No neutral midpoint, so people must lean one way. Label at least the endpoints.
Every generated scale has the same number of options on each side, mirrored intensity words, and a neutral midpoint only when the length is odd.
Likert scale questions
What is a Likert scale?
A Likert scale is a set of statements that people rate on an ordered, balanced range of responses, such as strongly disagree to strongly agree. Averaging several related items gives a more reliable measure of one attitude or experience than a single question.
Should I use a 5 point or 7 point Likert scale?
Use 5 points for most product surveys because it is quick to read on any device. Use 7 points when you need finer distinctions, such as tracking small changes over time. Keep the same length across items you plan to average together.
What does reverse-coded mean?
A reverse-coded item is worded in the opposite direction of the construct, such as "I found setup difficult" on an ease scale. Before averaging, flip its score with (points + 1) minus the response so a higher number always means more of the construct.
How does the wording check work?
It runs simple word and pattern rules in your browser to spot common problems like leading phrases, joined ideas, vague quantifiers, and double negatives. It is guidance, not validation research. Pilot your survey with real respondents and test reliability before relying on the results.
Is my survey text saved or shared?
No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server. Your draft is saved only in this browser's local storage so you can come back to it, and Reset clears it.
