Product Engagement Score Calculator

A Product Engagement Score (PES) is a single 0 to 100 measure of how engaged your users are, calculated as the average of your adoption, stickiness, and growth scores. Enter all three to see your PES, what it means, and which driver to improve first.

Improve Stickiness first

Stickiness is holding the score back. Build habit loops around the job users return for: digest emails, saved views, reminders, and integrations that pull people back into the product each day.

Product Engagement Score formula

PES = (adoption + stickiness + growth) / 3
  • Adoption: the share of active users who use your core features.
  • Stickiness: how often users come back, commonly DAU/MAU or WAU/MAU.
  • Growth: new, expanding, and recovered users relative to churned users, normalized to 0 to 100.

Example: adoption 62, stickiness 28, and growth 41 gives (62 + 28 + 41) / 3 = 43.7, a moderate score held back by stickiness.

How to read your PES

Excellent (80 to 100)
Users adopt core features, return often, and the base keeps growing.
Strong (60 to 79.9)
Healthy engagement with a clear lever left to pull.
Moderate (40 to 59.9)
Uneven engagement. One driver usually drags the average down.
Low (20 to 39.9)
Few users build a habit. Prioritize activation and core value.
Critical (Below 20)
Revisit the core use case, onboarding, and target audience.

These bands are practical heuristics, not an industry standard. How you define core features, active users, and growth changes the result, so keep definitions consistent and watch the trend.

Product Engagement Score questions

How is the Product Engagement Score calculated?

PES is the arithmetic mean of three scores: (adoption + stickiness + growth) / 3. Each input is a percentage from 0 to 100, so the result is also a score from 0 to 100.

What is a good Product Engagement Score?

There is no universal benchmark, but many SaaS teams treat 60 or higher as strong and 80 or higher as excellent. Track your own trend over time and compare similar products or segments rather than unrelated companies.

How do I measure adoption, stickiness, and growth?

Adoption is usually the share of active users who use your core features. Stickiness is often DAU/MAU or WAU/MAU. Growth reflects new, expanding, and recovered users against churned users, normalized to a 0 to 100 scale so it can be averaged with the other two.

Why focus on the weakest driver?

Because PES is a simple average, every point gained on any driver moves the score equally. The weakest driver usually has the most room to improve and is often the cheapest place to find those points.
